YAY you’re engaged, congratulations! You’ve told all your friends and family and even popped a bottle or two of bubbles to celebrate and the first question everyone asks is ‘when is the big day?’ your response ‘I have no idea’ and your brain is just like how on earth do I pull this together?! Don’t panic just take it bit by bit.
Firstly, think about who you want to be at this most special day and write a list. Do you want to keep it small and intimate or invite all the family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues, their partners, your dog? Seriously though, this will affect the type of venue you have.
Once you have your list, start searching the net for venues. You will be able to narrow them down by size. Clearly a party of 20 are going to be lost in a venue that can accommodate 150! Visit wedding fayres and open days, this will give you a gist of how the venue can look and what they can offer. Any venues you like the look of, book an appointment to see their event coordinator who will be able to talk you through all the price options. Hopefully this will lead you to book a date.
Now I know I’m clearly biased, but here comes the most exciting part, ‘THE DRESS’! Ideally, 9 months before the wedding is a good time to start looking, but we can always help with shorter lead times. Ask friends who are married where they got their dress from and more importantly if they had a good experience. It is very important that you have a good relationship with the shop that you purchase the most expensive dress you are likely to ever wear. You want to be able to trust them and know that they can deliver the dress to you on time. Also take a look at magazines and see which designs catch your eye. Look at the designers website to find your local stockist of those designs. If there is a particular dress by that designer, it is worth asking the shop if they have it. Each shop very rarely buys the entire collection from a designer, but can always get the dress in for you to try for a small cost.
After finding ‘The One’ for you, a theme tends to come to mind for your wedding (if not before) and the cake, flowers, bridesmaids dresses, entertainment etc. just flows from there. And hopefully from all the wedding fayres that you visited at the beginning you picked up cards from all the different suppliers you liked!
If you are really finding the experience all too much, I can guarantee your family and friends will be on hand to help! People love weddings and all the excitement they bring. But please do not worry about any phase of the planning as Alison and Sarah from Turner and Pennell are always on hand to help and can recommend all different types of suppliers in the wedding industry.
But most importantly, it’s yours and your fiancés day and you should do it how you want it to be!
